Keeping your Business Registration Certificate safely in a file is not enough.
Businesses registered under Act 197 are required to display the certificate at their business premises where it can be clearly seen.
This requirement applies to businesses such as sole proprietorships and partnerships registered under the Registration of Businesses Act 1956 (Act 197).
2. Why Is This Important?
Displaying your Business Registration Certificate helps demonstrate that your business is officially registered.
It also makes it easier for customers and relevant authorities to identify and verify your registered business while ensuring that you meet the applicable registration requirements.
3. What Happens If You Fail to Display It?
Failure to display the Business Registration Certificate as required is an offence under the Registration of Businesses Act 1956.
Upon conviction, the business owner may face:
- A fine of up to RM2,000
- Imprisonment for up to 6 months
- Or both

If your Business Registration Certificate is currently kept in a drawer or filing cabinet, make sure it is displayed in a visible place at your principal business premises and, where applicable, at your branches.
